House Update #2!

It’s that time again….a house update!

House Front

For those of you who might have missed it, Marshall and I bought a house! The renovations started in late July, and here’s what has been going on in the past 2 months. For a while, the progress was slow in the beginning. There was a lot of foundation work, so it “appeared” from the outside that not much was going on.

Our New Home

Long time no talk! I know I have been a little MIA on the blog the past few months, but I’m making a come back! I have a few recipe posts in the works currently to share, but I first wanted share what has been preoccupying a lot of the life the past few months.

House - Before Front Marshall and I bought our first home!

Now as any first time home buyers will tell you, it is never a simple process. And we just wanted to make it a little more complicated by adding a complete renovation to the mix.

Home - Tree Before

As you might be able to tell from the pictures below, we did not buy the home for the beautiful updates or its move-in ready charm. We bought this house mainly for the location and we think it’s perfect! We are centrally located to South End (our favorite area of Charlotte) and only 10 minutes from the city-center.  We are close to multiple of biking and running trails to easily stay active on a daily basis.

Since we are embarking on a whole-house renovation, I definitely wanted to take pictures of everything to make a nice “before and after” book. And when I say “renovation,”  I really mean a “gut” of the home. We are removing walls, adding square footage, and completing re-doing essentially everything you see. Here’s a room-by-room tour with notes with the future plans!

Front Living Room Before = Future Entry/Dining Room

This room is currently the only living space in the house, and we will be adding a larger living space at the back. Before Entry

“Master” Bedroom Before = Future Guest Room

The two bedrooms are the best looking rooms in the house. We are not changing them much, but we are adding a master bathroom/bedroom in the back.

Hallway from Dining/Kitchen to Bedrooms Before = Wall for Future Kitchen

This photo is taken from the current dining room looking toward the smaller bedroom. This doorway will be the corner of our future kitchen, so it will obviously be gone. Hallway Before

Dining Room Before = Future Kitchen

The wall you see will be removed, and our future kitchen will take over the entire current kitchen and dining room space. The focal point will be a huge island in the middle with a gas stove and griddle combo.

Kitchen Before

The current kitchen is tiny! The door seen opens to the back yard and that entire back wall will be gone! The kitchen will be open to the new living space and a laundry room will be attached on the left of the house.

Backyard Before

We have a great, large backyard! We have big future plans for this outdoor space! Think patios and gardens. Backyard

Now, did I think that buying a home would be in the cards within the first year of my move to Charlotte? Not a chance! Never in a million years would I have thought that it would be even possible to buy a home at 24 years old, let alone a complete home renovation. Needless to say, I finally feel like a “real” adult and am excited for the future!
