Do you know what time of year it is?!?!?!
It’s time for the…
TEXAS STATE FAIR!!!
State Fair’s are (in my opinion) so much fun!!! Always excellent people watching and they are always a little different depending on the location. And this fair is ALL about the fried food!
This beauty you see above was the fried grilled cheese I tried from last year’s state fair. So crispy and delicious! Luckily, Marshall was able to be here when the state fair started, so we were able to carve out some time to visit and load up on fried deliciousness before he left!
First up on the list? A Corny Dog!!
From my native Dallas friends, I learned that Fletcher’s Corny Dogs are a Texas State Fair staple! So naturally, Marshall needed to experience the corny dog as well!
Now for the rest of the fried state fair food tour:
Fried Mexican Fire Crackers
This was one of the Finalists for best food at the State Fair this year. It was basically like a fried tamale filled with spicy chicken, cheese and jalapenos, all wrapped up around masa dough and served with a TNT sauce!
Buffalo Chicken in a Flapjack
This was one of my favorites! It’s a buffalo chicken strip on a stick, dipped in pancake batter and rolled in jalapeno bread crumbs and comes with syrup on the side. Spicy and crispy! The syrup toned down the spice a bit, but I could have easily eaten it without the syrup addition.
Because we couldn’t JUST eat fried food. This corn was roasted and we asked for it without butter. No need to add more fat to the State Fair equation!
Lemonade Shake Up
We didn’t come prepared and bring our own bottled water, so we refreshed our palates with some freshly squeezed (and shaken) lemonade! I asked for only a little ice to maximize the liquid. No diluting with ice necessary!
Fried Cheese Curds
I was introduced to these cute little things last year! Gooey on the inside, crisp on the outside. No dipping sauce needed! And you got a LOT for your money with this item! They are similar to fried mozzarella sticks, but about 10x better. A state fair staple in my book.
Chocolate Frozen Yogurt
We had to end our HUGE meal with a little something sweet! And this chocolate fro-yo was low in fat, but still creamy and soothing on our very full stomachs. The perfect ending to our state fair adventure!
